All About EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique

What is EFT?

EFT Tapping ChartEFT (emotional freedom technique) is sometimes called “acupuncture without needles” and generates its results by balancing the body’s energy meridians while the person ‘tunes in’ to their problem in a gentle, conversational manner while simultaneously tapping on key points on the body.

EFT is based on the discovery that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the energy system.

The knowledge of energetic channels has been recognized and successfully utilized in Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 5,000 years. Energy pathways are in constant interplay with the mind, organs and emotions. When we are in a stressed state our energy pathways can become blocked, static, and even reversed.

This disruption in the energy flow causes distressful emotions such as anger, grief, guilt, jealousy, phobic reaction, panic, etc. Tapping introduces kinetic energy into the energy pathways, correcting the flow and allowing the energy to resume its’ natural activity. Troublesome emotions often just fade away. The results last and there is an obvious cognitive shift in how you perceive the issue.

Areas of physical pain frequently disappear when distressful emotions are addressed and collapsed. Western medicine now recognizes the electrical current in our bodies and gleans information through the use of diagnostic machines such as EEG, EKG, and MRI. Scientifically, it appears that by stimulating acupressure points while focusing on memories, emotions, or negative patterns, electrochemical shifts are caused in brain chemistry. EFT founder Gary Craig -- a Stanford engineer and personal performance coach -- joined these worlds together and created Emotional Freedom Technique.

EFT uses a gentle tapping technique, is startlingly effective, and produces lasting results for emotional and physical issues.

How is EFT Good for You?

EFT eliminates negative stress. According to Wikipedia, “Stress is a biological term which refers to the failure of the human or animal body to respond appropriately to emotional or physical threats to the organism, whether actual or imagined.”

In the west, stress has become a major contributing factor in the cause of disease with many authorities attributing up to 80% of disease to stress. Not to mention the effect it has on our ability to live an inspired life! When we are stressed for much of the day, our bodies produce chemicals and hormones that have evolved to get us through short term, life-threatening situations.

Where do you live most of the day? Your emotional state is where you live right now. You may be consciously or unconsciously thinking about it, pushing against it, fighting it. Anger? Resentment? Anxiety? Guilt? Impatience? Overwhelm? Grief? Sadness?

Bring relief to your current emotional discomfort and you shift your biochemistry in a healthier direction. EFT brings lasting relief.

What happens during an EFT Treatment?

We talk and we tap. EFT is much like talk therapy with an additional body element. You will learn how to tap on specific points, mainly on the upper body, while focusing on specific thoughts, feelings or events. Work can be done without reliving emotional pain and you will typically experience a significant relief of symptoms in the first session. We are partners in the process and our goal together is to bring a shift in your sense of self, or core beliefs about yourself that interfere with reaching your goal, creating what you yearn for and actualizing your own true nature.

It is important to note that while EFT has produced remarkable clinical results, it must still be considered to be in the experimental stage and thus clients must take complete responsibility for their use of it. Further, Stephanie Slater is not a licensed health professional and offers EFT and other methodologies as an Ayurvedic practitioner and personal performance coach.
